Shopify payout timing

When will Shopify pay me? Payout timing for US and UK stores

Estimate your Shopify payout date and understand how settlement time, payout schedules, weekends, bank holidays, and bank processing affect when the money arrives.

A merchant follows a payment through settlement days and a payout schedule before it reaches the bank.

The short answer

A normal Shopify Payments payout to a US or UK bank will often arrive several business days after the customer payment is captured. Shopify currently publishes a three-business-day minimum settlement period for standard charges in both countries, followed by roughly one to three business days for the bank to display the deposit.

That does not mean every Friday sale reaches the bank six calendar days later. Weekends and public holidays do not count, and your daily, weekly, or monthly payout schedule decides when Shopify releases settled funds. A Friday payment can therefore reach the bank the following Thursday, Friday, or even Monday under a normal daily schedule.

The three stages between a sale and your bank

A customer paying does not create an immediate bank deposit. The payment moves through three separate stages, and each stage can add time.

First, the charge settles. Settlement is the period Shopify and its payment partners need before the funds become available for payout. Shopify counts this in business days from the capture date recorded in Coordinated Universal Time, or UTC.

Second, the settled money waits for your payout schedule. With a daily schedule, Shopify can send it on the next applicable business day. With a weekly or monthly schedule, eligible transactions wait for the day you selected.

Third, your bank processes the transfer. Shopify says banks typically need another one to three business days after the payout is sent. The date Shopify marks a payout as paid is therefore not always the date it appears in the bank.

From customer payment to usable cash

  1. 01Payment capturedShopify records the transaction date in UTC
  2. 02Funds settleThe published minimum depends on country and payment type
  3. 03Payout is sentDaily, weekly, or monthly settings decide the release date
  4. 04Bank displays depositExternal banks normally add one to three business days
A payout date estimate needs all three stages. Looking only at the order date usually makes the deposit appear late when it is still within the normal window.

A worked example: a Friday sale in the United States

Suppose a card payment is captured on Friday, 7 August 2026. The store uses the standard three-business-day settlement period and a daily payout schedule. Saturday and Sunday do not count.

Monday is settlement day one, Tuesday is day two, and Wednesday is day three. The funds are then available for Shopify to release. If Shopify sends the payout on Wednesday, a bank taking one business day may display it on Thursday, 13 August. A bank taking three business days may display it on Monday, 17 August because the second weekend does not count either.

Settlement day 3Wednesday, 12 AugustFunds reach the minimum settlement point

This example is a normal range, not a promise. If the transaction uses a payment method with a longer settlement period, the account has a custom schedule, or Shopify places the payout under review, the date moves later.

Shopify payout timing in the US and UK

Shopify’s current regional table lists the same three-business-day minimum for standard Shopify Payments charges in the United States and United Kingdom. The practical difference often comes from the local bank holiday calendar, the merchant’s account settings, and the bank receiving the payout.

Use the settlement period shown in your Shopify admin if it differs from the published minimum. Shopify states that settlement can vary by country, risk level, and transaction type. A merchant with a five-day or ten-day period should calculate with that number, not force the estimate back to three days.

How daily, weekly, and monthly payout schedules change the date

Your payout schedule controls when Shopify sends funds that have already settled. It does not make the customer payment settle faster.

A daily schedule is the quickest normal route because eligible funds can be sent every business day. It also creates more deposits to match in your bank and QuickBooks, which may matter if you reconcile manually.

A weekly schedule sends eligible funds on the weekday selected in Shopify Payments settings. If a payment finishes settling after that day, it waits for the following week. For example, funds becoming available on Wednesday will normally wait until the next Monday when Monday is the chosen payout day.

A monthly schedule groups a larger period into one payout date. Shopify explains that when a chosen date does not exist in a shorter month, it adapts the payout to the final day of that month. A schedule set to the 30th therefore uses the last day of February rather than waiting until March 30.

How weekends and bank holidays affect Shopify payouts

Business days normally mean Monday to Friday excluding public holidays. A weekend can affect the settlement stage, the scheduled release, and the bank-processing stage. One transaction can therefore cross two weekends before the deposit becomes visible.

US examples include New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. UK examples include Good Friday, Easter Monday, the early and spring bank holidays, the summer bank holiday, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day. When a holiday falls on a weekend, an observed or substitute weekday may also be closed.

The calculator includes major US federal banking holidays and England and Wales bank holidays. Scotland and Northern Ireland have some different dates, and special one-off holidays can be announced. Treat the calculated range as a planning aid and check your local banking calendar before relying on it for payroll or a supplier deadline.

Where to find your actual payout information in Shopify

The calculator is useful before a payout exists or when you want to understand the normal window. Once Shopify creates the payout, the admin becomes the better source.

  1. Open Shopify admin and go to Finance, then Payouts. In some layouts, open Settings, Payments, Shopify Payments, and View payouts.
  2. Open the relevant payout and check its status, expected date, amount, currency, and bank reference.
  3. Check the transaction or payment capture date if you are trying to understand which payout should contain an order.
  4. Review alerts in Shopify admin and messages sent to the store-owner email. Holds and verification requests are normally explained there.
  5. If Shopify marks the payout as deposited but the bank has not displayed it after the normal processing window, contact the bank with the amount, settlement date, and bank reference.

Do not assume an order belongs to the payout closest to its sale date. Shopify groups transactions according to capture and settlement timing. Refunds, disputes, and adjustments can also settle at a different speed from the original charge.

Why a payout can arrive later than the calculator predicts

A normal timing calculator cannot see the private conditions attached to your Shopify Payments account. Several legitimate events can move a payout beyond the expected range.

  • An account review, compliance check, or request for additional identity or business documents
  • A reserve that temporarily holds part of the available balance
  • A custom risk-based payout schedule, which Shopify says can extend to five through twenty business days
  • A negative balance caused by refunds or chargebacks
  • A failed payout caused by incorrect bank details, account type, beneficiary name, or currency
  • A three-to-five-business-day security pause after changing an external payout bank account
  • A payment method such as ACH Direct Debit with its own settlement period
  • A bank taking longer than its usual processing time

If the payout is missing, first check the payout status rather than recalculating the order date repeatedly. A pending, failed, on-hold, or deposited status points to a different next step.

What Shopify Balance changes

Eligible US merchants using Shopify Balance can receive Shopify Payments funds sooner than merchants sending payouts to an external bank. Shopify says funds can arrive in a Balance account in as little as one business day from the transaction-processing date, although new merchants can take up to five business days in some cases.

That is a different route from the external-bank calculation used by our tool, so do not use the bank estimate for a Balance account. If you later transfer money from Balance to an external bank, the transfer introduces another processing period.

The payout date is also an accounting date

Knowing when cash should arrive helps with more than cash-flow planning. It also helps you choose the right Shopify payout when matching the deposit in QuickBooks Online.

The payout is not a new sale. It is the net cash movement for sales, refunds, fees, disputes, and adjustments that Shopify grouped together. Once the deposit appears, match it to the same payout rather than recording the bank amount as another lump of revenue.

If the bank deposit and Shopify payout differ, investigate the bank reference, currency, bank fees, and selected transaction before making an adjustment. If the Shopify payout itself is lower than expected, inspect the payout’s transaction breakdown for refunds, fees, disputes, reserves, and balance adjustments.

Where Vatteo fits

A date calculator tells you when a normal payout should arrive. Vatteo handles the work that starts once payouts become accounting records: grouping the Shopify activity included in each payout, keeping fees and refunds visible, checking the expected amount against cash, and preparing a controlled QuickBooks summary for review.

The two jobs are deliberately separate. The public calculator helps any merchant plan their cash without connecting a store. Vatteo is for merchants and accountants who need every completed payout to remain explainable through month-end close.

Common questions

Shopify payout timing FAQ

How long does Shopify take to pay out?

For standard Shopify Payments charges, Shopify currently lists a minimum settlement time of three business days in both the United States and United Kingdom. The payout schedule and the bank’s normal one-to-three-business-day processing period can make the full wait longer.

Does Shopify pay on weekends?

Shopify states that payout schedules use business days and that weekends and public holidays do not count toward settlement. A payout or bank transfer crossing a weekend therefore moves to the next applicable business day.

Why is my Shopify payout date different from my order date?

The order or capture date starts the settlement process. After settlement, funds wait for your daily, weekly, or monthly payout schedule, and the bank then processes the transfer. Several orders from different dates can therefore be grouped into one payout.

Why does Shopify say paid when the money is not in my bank?

Paid or deposited can mean Shopify has sent the payout. Shopify says external banks typically need another one to three business days to display it. If that window has passed, check the bank reference and contact the bank or Shopify Support.

Can the calculator guarantee my Shopify payout date?

No. It estimates the normal window from Shopify’s published rules. It cannot see account reviews, reserves, custom schedules, failed payouts, negative balances, verification requests, or delays unique to your bank.

Is Shopify Balance included in the calculator?

No. The calculator currently estimates payouts to external US and UK bank accounts. Shopify Balance follows a faster route for eligible US merchants and should be checked separately in Shopify’s Balance guidance.
